ORGANIZATION OUR INVOLVEMENT

ABC has a personal story about Alzheimer’s disease...

In January 2007, Shavonne’s grandmother, “Granny”, was diagnosed with this fatal brain disease at age 82. At the time Granny and Granddaddy had been married for 65 years. She had always been his rock and the cornerstone of our family. The woman who never raised her voice and led our family with compassion and support was suddenly very confused and so easily agitated. She even hit, kicked and bit Granddaddy! It was so hard to understand what was happening.

Our family quickly engaged the local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association in Polk County Florida. With their help we learned about medications, proper care, what signs to watch for, and how to better communicate with Granny. The counselors at the Polk County chapter helped us realize the best thing we could do for Granny was to place her in an environment dedicated to people suffering from Alzheimer’s.

Today, Granny and Granddaddy are living in two separate buildings of an Assisted Living Facility & Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Center, but are able to visit each other daily. Their visits are pleasant and full of love. Most days Granddaddy simply sits with Granny and holds her hand, and he never misses an opportunity to remind her how much he loves her.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the largest private, nonprofit funding organization for Alzheimer research. While there is no cure yet, clinical studies are the basis for advancement of knowledge in all areas of medicine, but these studies are sometimes hampered by difficulty in recruiting individuals to participate. The Alzheimer’s Association launched the Clinical Studies Initiative to explore ways to improve recruitment and retention of clinical study participants to find the cure for this debilitating and ugly disease.

Please join ABC and the Alzheimer’s Association in the fight against this horrible disease.

Having lost multiple family members, including David's sister at age 48, David's dad at age 68, and Shavonne's step-Mother at age 48, cancer has hit this family especially hard.  We are true believers in the spirit and support given by the ACS.

ABC is proud to contribute to this noble organization, and we invite you to support the American Cancer Society as well.

Unfortunately, most of us know someone who has been affected by breast cancer. According to The Breast Cancer Site, breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women and the second leading cause of cancer death (exceeded by lung cancer in 1985). Breast cancer is three times more common than all gynecologic malignancies put together. The incidence of breast cancer has been increasing steadily from an incidence of 1:20 in 1960 to 1:7 women today.

Breast cancer is not exclusively a disease of women. For every 100 women with breast cancer, 1 male will develop the disease. The National Breast Cancer Foundation estimates that approximately 1,700 men will develop the disease and 450 will die each year. The evaluation of men with breast masses is similar to that in women, including mammography.

Please join ABC and the Breast Cancer Site in funding free mammograms (Sign Up for Daily Clicks!) and finding the cure!

While a Floridian in every sense of the word, including graduating from THE University of Florida, our nephew Jeremy began his music making at age 20.  Now, one of the rising stars in country music haven Austin, TX, Jeremy is a true inspiration to us, and many others.

Having just released his second CD, A Damn Good Ride, Jeremy is well on his way to finding national success and ABC, David and Shavonne are proud to sponsor this outstanding young songwriter, musician and all-around great guy.

Check out Jeremy’s tunes for yourself and join us in supporting his music.

Notice anything special about the ABC Logo….?

It is made up primarily of the Miami Dolphins NFL Football Team’s Colors (plus a little pink added by Shavonne of course!).

David and Shavonne are native Floridians and original season ticket holders of the Miami Dolphins! We are true fans, and in fact our Home Office is a shrine to the history of the Miami Dolphins.
